Toyguide Update: The Clone Wars: Clone Trooper 501st Legion
October 9, 2008 | 10:12 PM EST | Jayson

The
Yakface Toyguide updates conclude today with the addition of the Wal-Mart Exclusive
501st Legion Clone Trooper. Pretty much anything with the "501st" designation is a sure fire way to get collectors into the stores. Thankfully, Wal-Mart didn't take advantage of that fact as this figure is the same price point as their other "basic figure" assortments. The figure itself is a repaint/repack of the standard
Clone Trooper but has the blue accent/flashes of the 501st Legion. Although this group is lead by Captain Rex, the blue hues of Rex and these 501st trooper figures don't match so they don't look like a cohesive unit. As mentioned, this is a Wal-mart Exclusive but instead of including a simple clamshell like another retailer, this figure features a Republic Army Identification Card that collectors can sign and add their photo to through Wal-Mart's Photo Center.

Toyguide Update: The Clone Wars: Commander Fox
October 9, 2008 | 9:42 PM EST | Jayson

The
Yakface Toyguide updates continue today with a series of additions to the ever-expanding
The Clone Wars Collection. Next up, the Target Exclusive
Commander Fox. Recently featured in The Clone Wars movie, Commander Fox is the leader of a detachment of Coruscant clone troopers assigned to protect Padme during her confrontation with Ziro the Hutt. The figure itself is kit-bashed repaint of the
Captain Rex figure with a repainted helmet/head accessory from the Clone Wars
Obi-Wan Kenobi and features the emblem of the Galactic Senate prominently displayed on his chest. This figure was available as a Target Exclusive for the initial price of $12.99, but in some areas managed to find its way to the clearance aisle for a fraction of that "premium" price tag.

Toyguide Update: The Clone Wars: #12 Super Battle Droid
October 9, 2008 | 9:38 AM EST | Jayson

The
Yakface Toyguide updates continue today with a series of additions to the ever-expanding
The Clone Wars Collection. Next up, the
Super Battle Droid. Arguably one of the best figures in terms of translation from screen to plastic, the bulky Super Battle Droid features modest articulation in the upper body and arms, but lacks knee and ankle joints. The SBD also features firing missile launchers that can be attached to the arms for more firepower.

Toyguide Update: The Clone Wars: #11 Clone Pilot Odd Ball
October 9, 2008 | 9:26 AM EST | Jayson

The
Yakface Toyguide updates continue today with a series of additions to the ever-expanding
The Clone Wars Collection. Next up,
Clone Pilot Odd Ball. A no-brainer on Hasbro's part here, a simple head swap and presto – new figure! Odd Ball is a kit bash creation of the standard "grunt"
Clone Trooper without weathering/battle damage. Odd Ball also includes the Clone Trooper's weapon accessories as well, but these do not have the silver weathering finish applied to them.

Toyguide Update: The Clone Wars: #10 Clone Commander Cody
October 9, 2008 | 8:56 AM EST | Jayson

The
Yakface Toyguide updates continue today with a series of additions to the ever-expanding
The Clone Wars Collection. Next up,
Clone Commander Cody. Collectors didn't have to wait too long to get one of their favorite clones in the Clone Wars line and he doesn't disappoint. Cody features superior articulation with ball-jointed shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees and ankles. His deco is a precursor to his EIII design, but I'd have liked him to have received a weathered treatment similar to
Captain Rex. Commander Cody features a unique head sculpt complete with battle scars, removable helmet, blaster, blaster rifle with rocket firing attachment and 2 rockets.

Toyguide Update: The Clone Wars: #09 Ahsoka Tano
October 9, 2008 | 8:29 AM EST | Jayson

The
Yakface Toyguide updates return today with a series of additions to the ever-expanding
The Clone Wars Collection. First up, Anakin's "snippy" new Padawan,
Ahsoka Tano. Like most of the animated Clone Wars figures, Ahsoka is an all-new sculpt that hold true to her dainty physique in the cartoon. She features the standard fair of articulation points most of which are ball-joints but does only have swivel elbow/forearm joints. Ahsoka's accessories include her now signature design lighsaber, Republic-issue backpack* and little Rotta the Huttlet (aka "Stinky"). Surprisingly, Hasbro felt the need to articulate "Stinky" as well giving him little swivel arms.
*While the backpack works well for Ahsoka, I think it would have potentially added more play value if the straps were longer so other figures like Anakin or Clones could utilize it as well.
